Taxes - KORA - Questions -

If the treasurer is to collect the taxes -

the county counselor puts them up for auction

Who decides what properties make the list to sell?

Who decided to let this one go for 10 years?

How does a taxpayer get to pick and choose what taxes they feel like paying?

Is the county government the fallback body to govern if a city within inhe county isn't being run responsibly?

If you elect not to respond to the KORA who do I appeal to?

Hey Henry,
It was great meeting you today.  BIBIBOP is the name of that company I was telling you about.  Basically they offer an entirely safe space for Celiacs as well as other allergens. They are more health conscious but the food is delicious so anyone would like it honestly.  I would say they offer an asian inspired build your own bowl meals.

It has been at least 15-16 years since I've stepped foot somewhere with the convenience of a fast meal (or not having to cook everything from scratch at home) and more importantly something where anything I see is 100% safe to eat; and there's so many more people just like that in Topeka. There are at least 4-5 locations in the Kansas City area but we have nothing like this here.  If you know of anyone to network with or that would be interested in bringing a business like this to Topeka it would be such a huge deal for the celiac community, let alone the Topeka community as a whole, having a different option for eating out and offering more jobs. I will put the link to their site below.

Also thank you for the suggestion on Dr. Gundry, I am doing some research into him and plan to grab his book.  I'm all about trying to heal and become healthy naturally and it is extremely true that our gut, or what is going on within the microbiome can affect the whole body.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Thank you,
Ashley Colhouer

Fw: KORA Request 053124

Subject: KORA Request 053124

Mr. McClure,

I was passed on the following request as an open records request.

KORA

The county has failed to collect all your specials.

Why have you not foreclosed on your own?

Henry McClure

The open records act is about providing access to specific records not answering questions.  I am trying to ascertain if we have a responsive record but without more information about what record you are trying to seek, that is not possible.

Cities do have the ability in statute to hold a tax sale if the County is not holding county wide tax sales under KSA 79-2801(c) of the Kansas statutes but the intent of that statute has been that a city only steps into the role of the county if the county has abrogated its duty to hold a tax sale.  Our county does hold annual tax sales.  The county is the administrative arm of the state and the correct body to hold these.

I am unaware of any conversations about the city holding its own tax sale.  Can you help me narrow down a timeframe or where you think the conversation occurred?

Thank you,

Amanda L. Stanley

Henry – I passed your complaint onto our zoning inspector.  It appears there are homeless camping out or squatting in the building, so she notified TPD for them to look into.  There is a question of whether there is an actual zoning violation but she is looking into that also.  If there are any property maintenance concerns, she will hand those off to our property maintenance/code enforcement division.
