A change to how we count Short views | As short-form video continues to grow on YouTube, we know that creators want a deeper understanding of how their short-form videos are performing holistically, including when they are posting across multiple platforms.
Historically on YouTube, a view has been counted after a Short is played for a certain number of seconds. However, we've heard from creators that they want to understand how often their Shorts are seen. So, going forward, views will count the number of times your Short starts to play or replay, with no minimum watch time requirement. We will keep the existing Shorts view metric, now called "engaged views," in YouTube Analytics so you can see how many viewers chose to continue watching your video. | | What does this mean for you? | You'll start to see this change applied wherever Shorts views are shown on YouTube. We expect that creators will see an increase in future Shorts views from this update.
This change will not directly impact creator or artist earnings, or how creators and artists become eligible for the YouTube Partner Program. Both will be based on engaged views.
Being able to compare views with engaged views will lead to deeper insights into how your short-form videos are performing on YouTube. We hope that this deeper understanding of your Shorts' performance will help you inform your content strategy, better represent your work to potential brand or agency partners, and give you a fuller picture of your overall reach if you're posting on multiple platforms. | | | | |
