Good Evening,

I just saw this on the police scanner page on Facebook. Awhile back, the homeless had started a fire out by Brown's. They were made to move. Apparently, some are back and an owner was given a code compliance to be responsible to clear the mess. Such a vicious cycle and I don't think the ELECTED city council learned much from their high paid consultant.

Very sad...

Choose Topeka

As a citizen of this community, I'm very alarmed of a YouTube video I discovered last evening. I'm still shocked that the video truly depicts a lady, who came here under the "Choose Topeka" is discussing the "how to" from the site how to get to Topeka to hang and all of her viewer's. VERY UNSETTLING and somewhat SCARY. I now question if the "Go Topeka" staff and are "ELECTED" County Commissioner's allow this nonsense?

Another issue I'm trying to understand is:
1) our County Commissioner's are ELECTED by citizen public vote.
2) it took a citizen public vote on the Inter local agreement.

However, it seems the "Go Topeka" brings whatever and whoever to the JEDO and our Commissioner's decide (PUBLIC HAS NO SAY WHATSOEVER).

TRUE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY.

Thoroughly disgusted with the crumbling of our State.

Our nation is in a crisis - families are being ripped apart at the seams by an agenda determined to sexualize our kids. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Mama bears across the nation are rising up to join the #dontmesswithourkids movement and pray, fast, and stand for their families.

SB 233 House Substitute for SB 233 by Committee on Health and Human Services - Enacting the forbidding abuse child transitions act, restricting use of state funds to promote gender transitioning (Missed veto-override in Senate by one vote in 2023 and don't want this to happen again; see 2024 voting in Senate and House.)

SB 394 - HB 2592 Requiring the use of age-verification technology to permit access to internet websites containing material that is harmful to minors.

TAXATION AND GOVERNMENT SPENDING

Public hearing 3:30 PM Tuesday, March 19 in Old Supreme Court room, 3rd floor north in capitol. Testimony due 10 AM that day.

Written testimony and/or oral testimony instructions (If you'd like to submit testimony, but have trouble with the instructions/technology, please contact Lanell directly at 785-969-8051.)

HB 2284 Providing an income tax rate of 5.25% for individuals, exempting all social security benefits from Kansas income tax, increasing the standard deduction by a cost-of-living adjustment, increasing the Kansas personal exemption, decreasing the privilege tax normal tax, establishing a 0% state rate for sales and use taxes for food and food ingredients on April 1, 2024, and increasing the extent of property tax exemption for residential property from the statewide school levy.

History: This bill died when the veto override failed in the House by three votes. All Republican representatives from Shawnee County voted YES. Five Republicans voted NO. See votes HERE. The tax plan is being rebuilt in conference. Reach out to Governor Kelly to let her know we need tax relief and responsible government spending!

SB 509 Establishing the education opportunity tax credit to provide an income tax credit for taxpayers with eligible dependent children not enrolled in public school.

Support this tax relief - and education excellence - by contacting your senator as a vote may occur soon!

STOP MEDICAID EXPANSION

Attend the public hearing on Thursday! On Wednesday, March 20th, there will be a Medicaid bill hearing, for the first time in four years. Dems are planning to fill the room. We need as many of you to attend as possible. Hearing starts at 10:30 AM but you will need arrive around 9 AM. It will be held at the Capitol on the third floor North, old Supreme Court room. This is Governor Kelly's big push to spend money on a failing system. Please share with your friends and family. Harrison Dollar with Americans for Prosperity, will be on the floor directing traffic and handing out t-shirts. If you want to contact him, his number is 816-608-0278. It is imperative we stop this bill.

Medicaid expansion would Not expand services to those in need, rather it would open availability to able-bodied adults; a move that hard-working citizens can't afford. Expansion would ultimately over-extend the state budget and push people into low quality health care. Read 15 Reasons NOT to Expand Medicaid for a detailed argument with linked references. Thank you for your help in getting the word out!
