A Hiring Decision for Topeka's Next Police Chief Likely to Occur This Coming Week
I was recently alerted to THIS CJONlINE ARTICLE about the final two candidates for Topeka's Chief of Police. Below are excerpts from Austin, TX candidate Chris Vallejo:
"One of the things I'm a big proponent of is gender diversity, gender parity within police departments." Vallejo also intends to implement the 30x30 program, a program that brings police stations up to 30% female police officers by 2030. He brought the program to his current police department.
As a woman, I'm personally against any hiring quota for women (or men for that matter). Allowing distractions from hiring decisions based on pure merit can actually cause the divisions which DEI seeks to solve. Quotas can raise of the question 'was this person hired for their merit or gender?' With no quotas, it's easier for women (or anyone) to earn respect.
Sheriff Brian Hill submitted a letter of recommendation for lifelong Topekan Major Russell Klumpp.
Respectfully let the Topeka City Council and the City Manager know your thoughts.
