Volunteers on my campaign are at times a little cranky about my reticence to go after my opponents, except for Ty Masterson. Masterson’s cronyism and kneeling at the throne of the Kansas Chamber corporate welfare Czars is beyond blatant. His legislative record is abhorrent and he sold out Wyandotte County and half of Johnson County with the Kansas City Chiefs’ steal, I mean deal.
However, as I have been asked numerous times why I didn’t, haven’t and cannot join forces with Philip Sarnecki it’s time to clear the air as to the HUGE WHY, and it’s a biggie.
On the morning of February 18, 2025, I had coffee with Philip at the Corner Bakery, 135th and Metcalf to discuss his candidacy.
I’ve known Philip and Heidi for years, as acquaintances, and even took Mike Czinege over to their house in 2021 to beg for contributions for his run against Curt Skoog for Overland Park Mayor. Wow, how time does fly!! However, the Sarneckis’ focus, from what I have seen, has been more on the federal level and the locals tend to get the crumbs.
Back to the coffee in 2025, Philip kept telling me about all of the people begging him to run. Finally, I asked, who?? The answer: Clark Hunt, with the Chiefs and Terry Dunn, J.E. Dunn Construction, god-fathers of the Kansas Chamber corporate welfare cabal. That was all I needed to hear to know I could never support Philip. He’s from the rarified stratosphere crowd all of whom are certain their projects, funded by yours and my tax dollars, benefit all peons beneath them. Sorry to break the news to them, this “economic development” scam has been on the books for 40 YEARS and it hasn’t, doesn’t and won’t work. Put that fairy tale in the false narrative category.
Philip mentioned that I would be good as his Secretary of Education. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that the Department of Education is not under the governor, rather the State Board of Education appoints the Commissioner of Education. Then he told me what a wonderful hostess his wife, Heidi, would be at glorious functions at the Governor’s Mansion (which she would be). I took my leave answering his query as to why my economic policies would not be compatible with his. I told him you will find out on the campaign trail.
To my shock and amazement, after Philip hid out during the war against the Chiefs’ deal, he has emerged with guns blazing as the ultimate king of anti-corporate welfare. Wow, political expediency? Manchurian Candidate? Has Philip forgotten his comment to me January 30, 2026 at the 1st gubernatorial debate when I told him the Chiefs’ deal was a disaster? His response which I have paraphrased: I’m meeting with Clark next week; we’ll see if there is something we can do to make it better.
In addition, there is his campaign finance report in which Corporate America is well represented. There are numerous maximum contributions from “executives” many outside of Kansas including Oregon, California (Malibu and Beverly Hills), Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Several developers are also on the report. Then there is the HUGE oops of his taking maximum in-kind contributions (which he has refused to return) from the Texas Kratom/7-OH distributor, David and his wife, Maya. Remember the gas station heroin which is 13 times more potent than morphine.
Oh, how I wish Philip Sarnecki was the conservative, anti-corporate welfare hero he has been busy trying to construct. He has spent a lot of money on his self-renovation project! If he was a true conservative that would have saved me 15 months of extremely hard work and a pile of money. However, the rewards of going across Kansas (40,000 miles – my poor car) has been very gratifying and I can’t and I won’t abandon the long-suffering conservatives in Kansas. They must have the opportunity to vote for a True Conservative REPUBLICAN in the August 4th primary.
And so, that’s the sad tale of why I didn’t, haven’t and can’t support Philip Sarnecki. How could I when he is beholden to outsiders in 22 states, including California (Malibu and Beverly Hills), the Kansas Chamber corporate welfare mob and the Kratom/7-OH gas station heroin crowd. WOW!!
