Visit to New Beginnings Bisonte Food Service

I met with the team at New Beginnings Bisonte Food Service, a regional leader in wrap-around services for people suffering from homelessness, addiction, or recent incarceration. Through their community kitchen, they are starting a new communal meal program that puts "food is medicine" into practice for those recovering from addiction.

Thank you to New Beginnings and Reno County Health Department leaders for letting me see this program in action. This visit was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the vital work they are doing for the community and the success they are having.

Children's Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County

As we observe April as Child Abuse Protection Month, I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to visit the Children's Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County. This visit has allowed me to witness firsthand the collaborative efforts of the Child Advocacy Centers, which are an integral part of the Kansas Children's Service League network. This network brings together a multitude of organizations and resources, all united in our shared mission to support families and protect our children from abuse.

The center cares for children who have experienced abuse or traumatic situations. Children can receive physical, mental, and behavioral health services as well as other wrap-around services as needed. Caring for more than 2,000 Sedgwick County children annually, this advocacy center has seen a more than 30% increase in demand for services, highlighting further how important their work is in protecting our most vulnerable—our children.

Thank you to the Children's Advocacy Center leaders for showing me around your facility and all of the work you do to care for children in Sedgwick County.

Inman Elementary School Visit

I visited Inman Elementary School to speak with students about the importance of government and the role of a United States Senator. The students asked me great questions about how the federal government functions and how it impacts their families.

I was impressed with their curiosity and insightful discussion and grateful for the opportunity to answer their questions and hear their thoughts and concerns. Thank you for letting me visit your school!

Western Sedgwick County Roundtable

I participated in a roundtable discussion with Western Sedgwick County to discuss the community's present and emerging challenges. Of top concerns were housing, high-interest rates, and unsustainable prices due to inflation. We also agreed on the importance of critical infrastructure as Wichita continues to grow.

As I fight for our Kansas communities in Washington, D.C., it is critical that we have these roundtable discussions centered around each community's top priorities and the challenges they face. Kansas legend and my mentor, Bob Dole, always told me, 'Listen to Kansans. They will tell you what to do,' advice that has never steered me wrong. Conversations like these are essential in ensuring I'm fighting for the issues that matter most to Kansans in Washington D.C.
