We are just reaching out a final time before the candidate forum on Thursday, October 23rd.  
We have no significant changes to speak of — leading to this being our final communication.  We invite you to read the entirety of the e-mail to be prepared for next Thursday.

Final Details:

•A response to the question: "What makes the neighborhoods of District 1 valuable to you as a Mayor/Councilmember/School Board Member?" — will be asked as part of your introduction to the audience.  This is the only question you will receive in advance.

•We will have a THS student photographer grabbing photos.  He will be instructed to get an individual photo of each candidate.  The best one will be edited and published.  You are also welcome to take your own photos/bring your own photographer.

•I will be in the room starting at 5 PM to help with set up and hospitality items (water, gum/mints).  You are welcome to check in 10-15 minutes before 6 PM to get settled in.  We do understand that a late arrival might happen, as organizations are likely asking for more of your time.  We intend to stick to our 7:30 PM exit time — and absences are…noticed.

•Finally, to help you orient, City Council District 1 includes the following:

Neighborhood Improvement Associations: Central Park, Downtown (under active), Historic Holliday Park, Historic Old Town, Monroe, Tennessee Town, and Ward-Meade (inactive)

Public schools include: Meadows Elementary, Williams Science & Fine Arts Magnet School (Elementary), Robinson Middle School, and Topeka High School

Independent schools include: Cair Paravel Latin School, International Academy, Mater Dei Catholic School, and St. John's Classical Lutheran School

Allusions to these items will come up during questioning.  We're providing these points of clarity to recognize districts for TPS BOE are defined with different metrics.

Subject: Addressing Landlord Licensing Concerns and Promoting Self-Regulation

Residents and Stakeholders,I recently had the privilege of attending a meeting with the Landlords Association, where we engaged in a productive discussion about the future of landlord licensing and the concerns surrounding it. As your Mayor, I would be committed to fostering a fair and sustainable environment for both property owners and tenants in our community.

After careful consideration, I propose that the Landlords Association adopt a robust system of self-regulation. This would involve establishing a clear and enforceable Code of Conduct for all members. By setting high standards for professionalism and accountability, the Association can ensure that landlords uphold ethical practices without the need for additional bureaucratic oversight.

Much like real estate professionals, who are entrusted to regulate their own conduct and monitor their peers, I firmly believe that landlords are capable of maintaining high standards through a self-policing model. Introducing unnecessary user fees or external regulations could place undue burdens on organizations already equipped to manage their own affairs responsibly.I am confident that by working collaboratively, the Landlords Association can lead the way in promoting fair, transparent, and professional property management practices that benefit our entire community. I welcome your thoughts and feedback as we move forward together.
