Hey Henry, On Mondays, I usually go over my three random thoughts with you. But today, I'm gonna do things a little differently. Because today isn't just another Monday. Today is June 19th. And on June 19th, 1856... 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas... And announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people were FINALLY free. Can you imagine what it would've been like to hear those words? Up until that moment... Blacks had been enslaved for over 200 years. And during that time of enslavement... Black people were considered property. They were bought, sold, and owned by white slaveholders. They were forcibly captured in Africa... Transported across the Atlantic in brutal conditions known as the transatlantic slave trade... And forced into a life of bondage and exploitation upon arrival in the United States. They were abused physically, psychologically, and sexually. They worked from sunrise to sunset doing backbreaking jobs. And they lacked proper nutrition and healthcare. And those are just some of the things they had to endure. So I'm sure you can imagine the relief they felt when they first heard that they were no longer slaves... And they could finally go home and live a "normal" life with their families. Of course, we know that's not what happened. Even though blacks were free from enslavement... Racial injustice and mistreatment still continued. However, June 19th, 1865 was still a huge milestone for the black community. And it's one that we'll never forget. So, to celebrate this day... And what it meant for us and our freedom... We're giving away a free bottle of our Apple Cider Vinegar during our storewide Juneteenth sale. Because if there's one lesson to take away from our history... It's that we have to FIGHT. We have to fight for a better future. We have to fight for better health. And we have to fight to see positive change in this world. But most importantly... We have to fight together. So join me in our fight against health inequality. Let's take control of our health. So they can't take control of us. Tap here to get 10% off storewide + a FREE bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar. Happy Juneteenth... -John Carlisle |
