Every Monday morning I write down 3 random thoughts and reflect on them. This is something I've been doing since my prison days. This little ritual helps me step back and reflect on things before I start my week. Let's see if it does the same for you. So with that said... Let's jump into the first thought on my mind this morning... 1. Better sleep starts with your phone You'd probably agree that we use our phones too much. In fact, the average person spends about 4 to 5 hours on their phone...every day. The problem is... Too much blue light exposure interferes with our body's natural sleep-wake cycle... Because it suppresses melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates sleep. And poor sleep... Has been linked to many health threats like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Not only that... But being addicted to our phones is also linked to depression and anxiety. So what can we do if we find we're addicted to our phones? Well, you could just make a conscious effort to stop using it. Or... you could turn off the colors on your phone. I know it might sound strange... But a recent study from the Social Science Journal said that switching your phone to grayscale could help you cut up to 40 minutes of screen time per day. Why? Because bright colors stimulate your brain to release the pleasure chemical: dopamine. So by turning OFF those colors... You trigger less dopamine... Which allows you to "unhook" your brain from looking at your phone. Now... On to my 2nd thought... 2. Listen to your gut. Have you ever heard of the zero-point field? If not, that's okay. I didn't know what it was, either. But the zero-point field is what allows us to do things like... Call or text our friends. Listen to the radio. And even create music. You can think of this field like a source of energy that flows through all things and exists in every moment. Anyways... I was reading this self-help book about how our gut can "tap into" this infinite energy field. And I believe it. When I look back... All my best decisions came from a "gut feeling." And what I've noticed is that just like a radio... You can "tune in" to this field. And the answers you're looking for will come out of nowhere... And when you least expect it. The point is... Don't ignore your "gut feelings." Because it's likely the Universe giving you the answers you need to make a good decision. Which brings me to the last point... 3. Your gut could be brainwashing you Now, I know I just said to listen to your gut. And you should. But there's one time you shouldn't listen to your gut. And that's when you get cravings to eat sugary foods or junk food. Why? Because those "cravings" are actually signals being sent to your brain by your BAD bacteria. That's right... If you have a gut imbalance, then your food cravings... aren't actually yours. You're being brainwashed by billions of bacteria that need more sugar so they can grow and infest your gut. And until you rebalance your gut to a ratio of 85% good bacteria to 15% bad bacteria... You'll never be able to get your cravings under control. So what should you do? Well, there's only one thing you can do. And that is to kill them. How? By eating foods loaded with probiotics and by making sure you exercise daily. It really is that simple. Anyways... I'm gonna wrap it up there. I hope you got some value from this. I hope you have a blessed Monday... -John Carlisle |
