Be prepared for summer heat, summer safety, and summer bills. Plus win a bee hotel.
Summer's heat is on the way May is usually the sweet spot in terms of your energy use. It's not cold enough to need the heat, and not yet hot enough to need the air conditioner 24/7. But summer's high temperatures will be here soon enough, and that can mean a big increase in your energy usage. Fortunately, there's a lot you can do to keep your summer bills manageable. Understand your bill Use our Bill Forecast feature to get a preview of your monthly usage. You can also see last year's bills and get an idea of how your energy usage compares to similar homes in your area. Get personalized energy-saving ideas Have you filled out your Home Profile Questionnaire? That's how you can get tons of simple, personalized tips that can make a big dent in your energy usage (and your bill). Want more predictable bills? Tired of getting a low bill one month then a high one the next? Check out Average Payment Plan, which evens out your bills so you know what to expect every month.
Don't be the cause of an outage At your spring parties, keep the Mylar balloons indoors. Why? Because Mylar is metal, and when it contacts power lines, it can cause fires and outages. Watch the video >>
Be prepared: Storm-related outages Summer storms can mean wind, lightning, and outages. Make sure we have your correct phone number so you'll receive an outage alert and updates if you lose power. Verify my info >>
Be there: Keeper of the Plains turns 50 This 44-foot sculpture by the Kiowa-Comanche artist Blackbear Bosin (1921-1980) has become an enduring symbol of the city of Wichita. Elmer Hall, vice president of KG&E (now Evergy), commissioned the sculpture for the grounds of the power company in 1974. In 2006, the sculpture was moved to its current location in downtown Wichita. The city will celebrate the Keeper's 50th birthday with a free, all-day Party for the People celebration on May 18. Be sure to visit if you're in the Wichita area!
Want to win a bee hotel? Last month, Evergy's Green Team installed these great-looking pollinator boxes using non-toxic wood from recycled utility poles, in a local community garden. These "bee hotels" aren't your typical accommodations--they're critical habitats for North America's most important group of pollinators. Our commitment to sustainability drives us to protect native bee species and create safe havens for their growth. Enter by May 20 to win one of three bee hotels for your own yard!
