From the Canon

Dear friends,

As I write this, there is a quiet springtime rain happening outside. It's mid-afternoon, the sky is grey and gloomy while a cool breeze blusters through the trees outside my office window. Several times today I've taken time to wander through the Cathedral. I'm feeling a bit lost in some ways, seeking to find or be found. I'm not sure which.
But while sitting here looking at the window of my office, I notice the reflection of others walking, talking, working … different people moving in and out of my view.  And I think to myself, what if we could reflect Christ in a similar manner?  As people watch us walking, talking, and working, do they see Christ reflected in us?
I'd say yes because I know I've seen Christ in you this past week. Our Lord is found in the love and kindness you've extended to others a time of deep grief and sorrow. You've shared your care and concerns, offered your quiet prayers and presence when no one had any idea what – exactly – could or should be done. You've led by example in these been difficult days, and while we are not guaranteed ease of life, we can be confident that the presence of the God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit resides with and is reflected in each of us.

Faithfully,
Canon Jody
Carkhuff Memorial Service
A Celebration of Life for Jenelle Carkhuff will be held at Grace Cathedral on Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. A reception will be held in All Saints Hall following that service.
Help needed: Three volunteers are needed to assist with clean-up following the reception in All Saints Hall. Please email Jackie Sommers at
jdrsommers@gmail.com to let her know you can help with this. Knowing how much Jenelle gave to hospitality and making people feel welcome in her years of ministry at Grace Cathedral, we want to do the same for those coming here to honor her. Thank you.

Daughters of the King Spring Assembly

Practicing The Way of Love was the theme of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas Daughters of the King Spring Assembly on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Grace Cathedral. Our Assembly guest speakers shared how we can practice love in our community. We concluded our lovely day in Grace's St. Mary's Chapel with Holy Eucharist. Music was provided by Dr. Livingston, organist.
It was a wonderful day! Thank you to all who made it so!

The missing handbell ringer

At last Saturday's memorial service for Darlene Elwood, the Cathedral Ringers Handbell Choir played a special arrangement of Amazing Grace in honor of the many years Darlene spent as a handbell ringer at the Cathedral. Her last time to play with this group was last month on Palm Sunday. This memorial was set up in her place at the handbell table.

Well done, good and faithful servant. —Matthew 25:23

Violence Reduction, Mental Health Crisis Services and Homelessness in Topeka will be addressed with researched solutions presented to local officials. Show them, by your attendance, that we are serious about correcting injustice in the lives of our neighbors. Our goal is to have 65 Cathedral members in attendance!
