Victory for Small Businesses Against Joint Employer Rule I am pleased to announce we secured a victory for our Kansas franchise owners and small businesses. In a 50 to 48 vote be nullified the 'Standard for Determining Joint Employer Status' rule put in place by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Joint Employer status is established when two businesses are found to be controlling the working conditions of employees. Broader joint employer standards would put undue liability on franchisors, forcing them to invade the operations of their franchisees more. This would essentially turn franchisees into corporate middlemen. I will always fight for our Kansas small businesses and franchises against more federal government red tape and regulations. I also led the Save Local Business Act, which codifies narrower joint employer standards, allowing franchisees to have more freedom in their operations and preserve their independence as small business owners. Leading CRA Opposing Biden Rule to Add More Regulation on Existing Oil Production I led a Congressional Review Act (CRA) in the Senate challenging the Biden Administration's rule requiring energy producers to drastically reduce methane emissions and imposing additional burdensome regulations on new and existing oil production in Kansas. Energy costs have significantly risen nationwide and Americans are feeling it. Piling on regulatory burgers on the oil and natural gas industry at this time would only further exacerbate this trend. The Biden Administration has taken their war on American energy and oil producers too far. I will not bow down in this fight against strangling our producers with Washington, D.C.'s red tape. Fight for Kansans to Stop Paying Exorbitant Prices to Transmit Electricity Out of the State I was joined by Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) in writing a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) addressing an ongoing situation that continues to cause Kansans to pay exorbitant amounts of money to transmit electricity out of the state. We previously wrote a letter in September 2023 demanding answers from FERC on this issue. Kansas ratepayers should not pay extra to transmit wind energy to neighboring states; that is common sense. More than just having the ability to fix this unjust situation, FERC has the obligation to do so. It is a requirement that costs must be allocated in relation to the benefits received, and that is not happening. FERC must step in and provide relief to the people of Kansas. Biden's Outrageous Ask: Make Hardworking Americans Pay Off Student Loans For Other People. This week, President Biden released another multi-billion-dollar new student loan forgiveness scheme. In the America I grew up in, if you take out a loan, you pay it back. It's that simple and is a fundamental principle of learning financial responsibility. Sadly, Joe Biden's pursuit to saddle our blue-collar workers with the debts of Ivy League grads, elitists, and lawyers never ends. This is nothing more than a political stunt that the Biden Administration believes will buy young people's votes. That is what this all comes down to for him – the next election, not the well-being of the next generation. |
